The Repair of
Greens Windmill,
Nottingham.

The 5th November was the day the repair of Nottingham City Council’s Green’s Windmill in Sneinton,  commenced in earnest.  After much planning and Green’s Windmill Trust marshalling entrances to the adjacent public park, the crane arrived at 8am and carefully made its way up the narrow and steep hill into the small courtyard.

Ackroyd Construction with millwright Jon McGuinness  and crane operator, Walkers expertly spent the day first removing the clamps, then the stocks themselves.  It wasn’t all plain sailing.  The folding wedges were very tight and took some elbow grease to remove. The first of the  two timber stocks had swelled and corrosion inside the iron cannister (which the stocks thread through) meant the team had to wiggle and the crane pull some 1.4 tons to release it.

This short video summarises the entire day.  Some video clips are sped up – crane movements were slow and steady.
